So you’ve decided to go on the Croatian Water polo Cruise.
Let me start by congratulating you on making a brilliant decision. Get ready for an incredible adventure because that is exactly what awaits you and your family. Aside from the world-class water polo coaching and training you are about to participate in, you get to have a unique experience and introduction in history like you’ve never done before.
Your journey starts in one of my favorite cities, Split Croatia. This city has its very own palace right smack in the center of town!
The Diocletian Palace was built at the turn of the fourth century AD using local marble and limestone in the region for the Emperor Diocletian. This impressive and massive structure is one of the largest and best preserved Roman Palatial Architecture in the world. For those of you who appreciate transitional Greek and Byzantine Roman architecture this is a must see. This massive structure today forms about half the old town of Split. Aside from the Plethora of historical architecture and artifacts you find walking thru the city center, you will also find 3 sphinxes roughly 3,500 years old which were brought to Split from Egypt for the Emperor.
Today the Palace is home to about 3,000 people who live in the apartments inside the palace. Aside from the apartments, the Palace has cafes, shops and restaurants that line the narrow streets.
Just outside of The Diocletian Palace is the Port of Split, only a few steps away from the Riviera. This is where your Yacht and Crew are docked and waiting for you. It’s Crazy I know, but it’s all true.
Once on board you set sail to one of the 1000 + islands on the Croatian Adriatic. Before reaching destinations on your itinerary, you can expect a stop along the way to swim in private enclaves and coves. The practices are held out on the open sea where the only way into the water is to jump right off the boat. For the rest of us who are not there for the water polo we get to enjoy some snorkeling with fins and masks brought on board for you to enjoy. Yup, you heard me. No need to pack the fins, mask or snorkels, it’s already waiting for you. Not much for snorkeling how about paddle boarding? No, not your jam, what about a kayak? Still not your thing? You can always lounge on the top deck of the yacht where sun chairs are waiting for you to kick of your shoes and just relax. There are also pool toys like noodles, and floats for you to enjoy if you feel like letting the sun caress you while the water softly carries you around the cove.
Once you are called back from your leisurely swim or open sea practice, you will most likely head for; The Island of Hvar, The Island of Korcula, Dubrovnik, The Island of Brac, Omis and other private islands along the way.
Ivan is not only an amazing water polo coach, but, your private tour guide. He will take you on a trip back in time, while walking you from the boat to the water polo field. If you want to learn more and see some of the pretty cool things each city on your cruise has to offer read my other blogs. Until then, I wish you happy sails and hope your trip is as incredible as mine have been. I can’t wait to see you in Split !
